MENS OPEN FOURS 2012
The Open Fours are down to the final to be played on Tuesday 3rd of January between
the Garbett team and the David-Rewiri team. While Garbett overcame Hughes
comfortably David-Rewiri had a heart-stopper overcoming a 5 shot deficit on the
last end against Burgess. Garbett will go in as favourites but the underdogs are
more than capable of producing an upset.
THE FINAL (3/1/12)
In a very close encounter the Garbett team (L. Boggiss, G. Joyce, M. Baker, G. Garbett)
defeated the David-Rewiri team (E. Pretty, R. Handler, R. Howarth, I. David-Rewiri)
by one shot after being down by two shots playing the last end. The lead had swapped
several times and after 14 ends, the score was 15-15. Shots were exchanged over the next
few ends. In the 20th end, the Garbett team was down by one shot 18/19 and David-Rewiri was holding
three close shots all on the centre line but Garbett with a fine bowl was able to reduce the count
to just one but it meant that his team was down 2 shots 18/20 playing the last end. Pretty put in a good
lead bowl which meant that Garbett's team had to remove it. Baker did this with his second bowl
leaving his side holding 2 shots. David-Rewiri played weight with his last 2 bowls but failed to
remove either of the shot bowls. Then with his last bowl and the last bowl of the match, Garbett
drew a third shot to give his side victory 21/20.
It was a match worthy of a final, and the losers can count themselves unlucky.
